Creative Work

Much of my creative work focuses on playful interactions. This often is done through alt control, but other variations including singing and audio, and a shared phone two-player experience. These 'twisty' designs are fun for me to play with and design around, often leading to new gameplay expereinces I may not have designed without that initial change in the input.

A majority of the projects I make I do so to ensure that I stay current on the technology I teach in class. Often, I am doing most everything for the project - programming, controller construction, and art asset production. This is only broken in instances when I am working on game jam teams, where my goal is to spend time with friends making a thing, moments and times I highly cherish.

Paths and Environments

An augmented reality simiulation shown at Games, Learning, and Society 2013. This game used a Kinect to gather user motion through a digital space, and then simulated the life and growth of an invisible garden affected by user presence. The garden could only be viewed through a 3 degrees of freedom tablet which displayed the current state of the world. A reflection on the worlds that our presence affects and how that prescence unintentionally affects those worlds. Please forgive me I was (am?) terrible at documenting my work, so pictures of it in action are unavailable.

Game Jams

A site of research, a way of spending time with friends. My game jam games include a story about middle age, a game played by tuning an in-game radio, one with harmonica as the input mechanism, a game where you play as a demon-possessed washing machine, and several others that simply keep me sharp at making media.
